Story:

An interesting subject, the story begins in 16th century and the place is Kancheepuram. Among the Pallava dynasty, there is Boddhidharma (suriya), the young king who is master in martial arts, medical sciences and also the control over the five elements with hypnotic powers. He sets off to China for a reason. Eventually, he is treated as a God but due to the locals wish, he lays down his life. The film comes to the present and in Chennai is Aravind (suriya), a circus artist. He sees Shuba (Shruti) a genetics student and falls in love with her. Though Shuba doesn't feel the same for Aravind, she needs his help for a reason. On the other hand, a Chinese man called Dong Lee (Johnny) comes from China and he is searching for Shuba to kill her. Why does Dong Lee search for Shuba? Why does Shuba search for Aravind? What is the link of Boddhidharma with all of them? This forms the rest of the story.

Artist performances:

Suriya is the star. He scores in both his roles and shoulders the film very well. Shruti Haasan was sensuous and she is naturally attractive. She even got a good role to perform. Johnny Tri Nguyen was another star to watch out for. He conveyed all the emotions through his eyes and made a strong impact. Avinash was alright, Guinness Pakru was okay, Abhinaya was brief, Ashwin was apt, Dhanya was regular, Raghavendra was upto the mark. The others had nothing to offer.

Plus points:

Suriya
Excellent storyline
Cinematography
Johnny Tri's performance
Technical values

Minus points:

Dragging sequences
Weak emotional quotient
Sluggish pace
Logical loopholes in few scenes
Predictability factor

Analysis:

The film is the dubbed version of the Tamil movie 'Ezhaam Aurivu' but there was not much problem or a nativity thing. As such, this is a beautiful concept and it takes guts to come up with such a subject in celluloid. But despite having good material in hand and a strong team of actors and technicians, the director could not bring the required punch or the intensity which can engross the audience. However, the film still has a strong appeal to it. At the box office, the film will do well and land in profits but scoring a bumper success is difficult.

Verdict: Worth watching once but without any expectations
